My friend's computer is at 100% CPU usage. I looked at another post on here and did everything it said to. Then I looked at the processes and the one that is using everything up is called system. It won't let me end it, and when i do the computer shuts down. Does anybody know exactly what this is, and how I can change it at all. The image name is System and the user name is SYSTEM.

your system file seems to be corrupt.to restore the backup file you must startup with the win xp cd and go to the repair consol.once at the prompt, copy the system
file in the repair folder to the system32/config folder.
ie copy the file c:\WINDOWS\repair\system to the directory c:\windows\system32\config and overite the existing file.ps the system file has no extension. If this don,t solve your problem it won,t harm or change anything on your computer.sorry 4 the bad explanation i am not good at explaining things
