ok i have a DELL WEB PC and i think my little modem card burnt out or something i dont know but i dont know where to buy them so i just bought a usb external modem and after i installed it and i connect to my ISP my cpu usage jumps up to 98-100% and only when i disconnect does it go back down and i think if i am not connected it jumps up when i run windows media player
and a side note in my "prosseses " window there is 3 scvhost's in it...i dont know if that has anything to do with it
and i herd something about bad modem drivers...could that be the problem?
or could it be spyware or a virus?? if so can you recomend any good and proferably free programs to remove ...i cant use the trail or norton cuz it says my trial period has expiredany help would be much appreciated

well those svchost processes are normal. it could be a virus, so do a virusscan, you could try the trial version of mcafee if norton has expired. Install adaware and check for spyware and if you can find drivers install the latest ones and try updating windows as well, it could be a driver conflict.

It is probably a virus so check out with some popular antivirus. it might be a variation of Blaster Worm that has similar characteristics. Also see if some unknown service is running and consuming processor usage. Close the service and see if the problem solves. Else try reinstalling the Media Player.
