Comment:

I've never heard this sound (an alarm?) before on any computer, and neither has my husband. We aren't in the field, but we are savvy enough.

In any case, my daughter was playing a game and the CPU started making a "dee-doo, dee-doo" sound. I've looked on the previous posts, and wonder if it is an overheat problem, but it is certainly not the hottest day (although the room is mid 70 degrees) and the case doesn't seem hot either.

I've tried all my standard searches on my pc and the internet for more info, but haven't been able to pinpoint anything. Any help would be most appreciated!!! (It hasn't done it in the past 15-20 minutes since she ended her games. Oh and we tried a couple different ones plus two restarts.)

Thank you!!!

Andrea

Are you really really sure the noise wasn't in the game Andrea?

Yup sounds like the game did it, im thinking that it may have made the noise in the internal pc speaker which would have been confusing for some people who only know of their desktop speakers.

Can I suggest maybe getting her to open up her game and try again if the noise appears.

Thank you for your replies.

Yes, it does sound like a game problem, but not just one, but two games were played (I thought it was the game at first also). Both of the games have been played numerous times before and never emitted this sound. Also, after quitting the game (both times), the sound was still coming from the CPU until I quickly restarted the computer.

Also, I just retried both games and could not replicate it.

Maybe I can just hope it doesn't happen again?

Some older computers made an alarm noise whenever a program tried to write to the MBR (Master Boot Record) as a sort of virus protection. Check in your BIOS to see if you have that setting enabled. Also, if that's the cause, you should disable it and also check for viruses. The MBR should not be accessed while you're playing a game.

Also try and find a program to monitor CPU speed. Some BIOS's come with an alarm that sounds when the temperature goes over a certain level. Make sure your fans are working. Your CPU's temperature should always be less than the alarm state on your BIOS; if not you're having an overheat and should see a computer tech person right away, since overheating can cause irreparable damage to your system. Best of luck.

Actually, I have had the same problem at our small business. One machine I took out of commision after disconnecting the internal speaker.

Now it seems like another computer is displaying the same symptom...

Any help?

Cindy
