CUP Load is 86% or more all the time. Windows Task Manager tell me iexplore.exe SYSTEM 80-90% ALL TIME even when the program is not used The other high one is iexplore.exe Owner. I also lost my McAfee Virus Scan program at about the same time and have tryed most everthing to reinstall it with out luck.

Thank you, Casey

when you're in the task manager, go into the processes window, and try killing any applications you dont need, and see how the systems run. You usually run a lot of background apps that you dont need. Once you have found the ones you need, and dont need you can turn them off by do the following:

go to start -> run and type in msconfig
go to the start up tab
uncheck all the programs you dont want to run
and hit apply

you can always go back and turn them on again if you want. this should take down the CPU load considerably.

If you dont have a virus then you have some nasty spybots installed from either a program like Kazza or one of the others that install that stuff and take your pc over with advertisements etc.

Try Adaware and remove them or restore to a previous state that worked with your McCaffe Virus Protection.

All good advice. You can also try this. In regedit, navigate to Hkey_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer. Add this key. AlwaysUnloadDLL. Set the value to 1. This will unload any left-over .dll files prior to starting another program.

I think this is the info you need.
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100183.htm
copy and paste the link if it dosn't work.
It is a link to mcafee virus info page. In my task manager the proces iexplore (both ) if i have more than one window open is running under my user name NOT system.
If it's lovegate like I think it is then its no wonder cpu usage is so high.
good luck

Same for my system - even same configuration, plus I have the same issue with McAfee! Noticed this last night for the very first time. There is one iexplore.exe owned by SYSTEM, plus one owned by the actual user. Killing the 80% load SYSTEM proc will immediately reload it. I had some virus checks run (Linux boot CD, latest virus signatures installed), but did find nothing. Deleting the IEXPLORE.exe file and killing the process does put a new IEXPLORE.exe file in the same folder!? Have checked CRC and compared to another XP installation with no differences.
Guess this is XP's way to scream for a reinstall... :-(
