For several months now, each time I boot up, I get an error message in the boot screen dialog and it hangs there until I press F1. Then XP loads and runs fine.
Boot Error Message: "CPU is unworkable or has been changed" "Please recheck CPU Soft Menu"
I went to ABIT and other forums and got many suggestions tried them all with no luck:
Update the BIOS
Reset the CMOS
Unplug the button battery and reset the CMOS
Change BIOS settingsDid all that. Finally got a tip to change the SDRAM setting to 5:4. (was 1:1) That worked on first reboot, then on subsequent reboots, the setting reverts to 1:1 and the problem is back. I DID save the setting in the soft menu.

I was getting the same message on a new computer that I built and I had to change the cpu speed in the Bios to reflect the actual CPU speed. It is also an ABIT MOBO.
