CPU Freezes on Desktop

June 3, 2009 at 10:45:07
Specs: Windows XP
So I have a CPU that is freezing on load. I can boot the computer and it gets to the desktop and within 5-10 seconds, my mouse freezes in the middle of the screen and the entire cpu becomes non-responsive. Keyboard fails, mouse freezes, can't DO anything.

I tried rebooting in safe mode and everything works fine in safe mode. I tried restoring to last known good configuration and that fails too. I am to the point of doing a clean install of XP and just re-installing the entire thing, but I would rather it not come to that if it doesn't have to.

Anyone have any ideas? The cpu runs fine in safe mode, can access the internet, and everything, but when I try to run in normal mode it freezes up in seconds and there seems to be nothing I can do about it.....

Check your event viewer from admin tools in control panel.

It could be a bad drive!
