I replaced a CPU fan in a Dell Dimension 4600C and continually receive an error message (Previous Fan Failure, press F1 continue, press f2 enter setup.) The fan is fixed/replaced and I still receive this message. In site search I found another post of the same problem, however, the reply was only warning of running without a fan. No remedy.
Please advise.

Have you checked the pins on the Dell cpu fan and the new fan to make sure they have the same number of pins and are wired the same way(color coded). Be sure to check the connector is connected properly and not reversed. You could also try and reset the bios, by using the jumper pin near the cmos battery if there is no disable feature for fan failure in the bios.

Thanks Capt. The pins are in order, fan wired right. I'll try the bios thing and advise.

Okay capt. I went into the BIOS and made a change at "Report Keyboard Errors", now when it starts/boots I get a message "Previous Fan Error" but it continues with the start/boot. That's good enough for me.
Thanks for the help.
