I'm having a couple issues here with HellSouth (AKA BellSouth) that are really annoying me. I'm hoping some of you can be of better assistance than most the clowns that work the support lines over there.
First issue - whenever attempting to install BellSouth FastAccess DSL Help Center 2.0, I'm always interrupted during the installation with a MoveFile failed; code 5 error concerning the file C:\Program Files\Support.com\BellSouth\RemoveAll.exe. I have made sure the directory did not exist when I installed it. I tried doing a system restore to an earlier date and installing it then, no good. I get the same error whether I try to install it from my CD that I received with my modem or if I download and install it from the Internet. Any ideas?
Also, and this is a bit more complicated problem. I recently had an Alcatel SpeedTouch USB modem when one day my Internet connection suddenly started dropping and restarting on me at random and at all hours of the day. I spoke with BellSouth, and the lady was convinced that my outdated modem was the cause and she sent me a Westell WireSpeed Dual Connect modem. Same issue.
So I call them back up again...they tell me to reinstall the hardware and drivers. I do that, no good.
Call them up again, the lady directs me to the modem configuration and tells me to set my Connection Type to Always ON, rather than On Demand. Still, no good.
I call them up again, the guy does a line test and says there's "physical trauma" within the network and that a technician would be out today. According to a another representative I spoke to, the technician had in fact came by early this morning and fixed whatever he thought was wrong. And yet, I still have these random drops in my connection.
Anyone have any idea what's going on with this thing?
Thanks bunches!
Chris

Hi Chris,
A common cause of this type of problem is a setting in the Device Manager about "disconnection after 30 minutes of inactivity". Try looking in the hardware setting for your modem and disable this option.
As for the "Help Centre" installation problem, I would recommend just not installing it. If it's causing trouble simply trying to install it and (as you say) the help technician at BellSouth are no use, just don't bother with it.
And if problems persist, phone up the technical support and threaten to leave unless they get someone round to fix your annoyance pronto. If they don't care, neither should you: just switch supplier and kick up a big fuss when you do.
