we need a little more than "doesnt work". it works for many people including me.
all i can suggest is, update HL to the most recent release. update CS to the most recent release. if neither of those work please define "doesnt work"

Go to the following site: Click on software and when the window opens click on games and entertainment on left hand side. Check to see if it is compatible with Win XP?

I have XP and Counterstrike works fine for me. You need to update you actual Half Life game to Version 1.1.0.8 atleast (I could be wrong about the numbers cause it's off the top of my head)... also you need Counterstrike v1.3 to play on most of the servers on Gamespy Arcade... which can be d/l'd from www.counter-strike.net
Hope that helps somewhat...
