Couldnot Install windows xp via pendrive

August 16, 2011 at 07:03:55
Specs: windows xp
Actually my laptop's cd drive is not working, and i want to install the os through pendrive.
I followed the procedure in the link below.,

Everything, upto making my 2gb pendrive bootable worked well.
But when I was rebooting the laptop in txt mode for os installation, it is
displaying only one partion (that too the pendrive as a partion) . No hard disk
partitions were displaying.
Since i was left with no options, i selected to install on pendrive itself. Obviously
it couldnt format it or repartition the free space in it, since it contains the installation files.
My previous os was xp (but preloaded with win7). Now i was left with no os on
the laptop.
My cd drive was damaged so i can not use any cd’s.
Please suggest me what to do..
Thanks in advance.

What machine did you use to transfer Windows setup to the pen drive?

Does the BIOS in your machine support USB boot & did you set the boot sequence?

Did you slipstream the SATA drivers into XP?

I used my friends desktop for transfering os files through a softwqre 'wintoflash'

Yes, my bios supports usb boot
And I have given 'usb flash drive boot' as first priority and then hard disk.

Why don't you borrow a usb cd drive from someone?

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
