Corrupted System Log in XP

Hi,
I'm having a continual problem in XP with the System log in Event Viewer. It is constantly being corrupted. It becomes corrupt, I clear it out (& I have also in the past deleted the actual log file itself so that XP could recreate it), but it soon becomes corrupt again. Has anyone got any ideas as to what may be causing the corruption & how I can stop it? Becoming corrupt once I can understand, but constantly?

what sort of error does it throw when it corrupts? never seen this sort of error before myself, so it may not be all that common, so if you can provide any more info maybe someone has an idea...

When I open Event Viewer & try to access the System log, it comes up with a dialog box stating that the log is corrupt. Because of this, it can't show any of the previous log entries, so I don't know whether there is just one type of error constantly causing the corruption, or if there is another cause.
