Hey guys, can anyone help on this?
I recently got a real bad piece of spyware on my PC.
I managed to clean it fine using several spyware and adware proggies. My PC is now suffering from this......
my winlogon.exe file under 'processes' in TaskMgr is randomly gaining in size, anywhere up to 700mb....!!!!
This can happen as soon as the machine is turned on, or after I've used an app or played a game.
This is obviously having an effect on the system. It isn't using my RAM up but my page file shoots up to over a gig in total, highest I've seen is 1.6gb, which is not good.
All the spyware progs I'm running are not returning anything new or dodgy, so I'm assuming that I've cleaned the system, but its left me with a corrupt winlogon.exe file.
I've checked under C:\Windows\System32\drivers\hosts & ldhosts, and all seems OK. I was asked to check here by a mate as sometimes 'false' files like 'winlogin.exe' from an attack can hide here and mess stuff up.
I've done a system restore which didn't fix this, and av scan doesn't yeild anything at all.....
Any ideas would be excellent guys, even if you can tell me how to redo this file....
thank you all and anyone who posts on here....

i think that when you did the system restore you also restore spyware or any viruses you had. i suggest that you start windows in safe-mode and then run all you spyware programs and your anti-virus
use free programs like-spybot
-microsoft anti-spyware
-ad-awareremember any type of scan allways run better in windows safe-mode.
PLEASE WRITE BACK IF MY ADVICE WAS HELPFUL
mess with the best, suffer like the rest.

Thanks for the info Masterjuan.....
Tried all of the above, and none of it worked I'm afraid.
I forgot to mention that when I boot up normally, I get an error message saying "Cannot locate file c:\windows\inet20003\winlogon.exe" - this doesn't look like the right location for this does it??
The large winlogon.exe file also happened whilst in safe mode
Any further ideas?
Thank you

hi again, i have still got the problem.
I managed to get rid of the above error message by disabling some options under startup in msconfig.... but the winlogon.exe file is still having problems with gaining in size.... i've checked other winlogon.exe file problems on this site, but none seem to have the same issue as this....
any further ideas??
thanks again
