Had this happen also,i crashed either because of a SB live or Nvidia Graphics card driver. The only solution was to format the affected drive.Weird thing of it all,the drive with the error wasn't the OS drive, but a storage drive!I saw the same message during setup at disk check.

I had this problem and recently had to reformat.. reinstall.. but i cant run anything from the xp disc in dos, including disk repair, or installing it, so my only solution when i cant get back to windows is to format, then install win98 then in windows i install xp, if anyone has any solutions to my problem on using xp in dos please e-mail me

Hi all,
I used to suffer from the same problem, with xp pro,I read lots of comands how to rcover with recovery console but hey it worked for a while but crashed again.... .But here is the trick to work around the frequent crashes.
This is the most popular command that I have seen on different posts:
cd system32\config
ren system system.old
ren system.alt systemalt.old
copy c:\windows\repair\system
copy c:\widows\repair\regback\system
exit(where xp reboots after typing this important)
Now here is what I found out if you type these commands instead of whole bla bla:
cd system32\config
copy c:\windows\repair\system
(youŽll see a message copied 1 file)
in the end youŽll be asked to overwrite the file 3 options yes,no,all....choose yes or all. Then type exit in the end & press enter..xp reboots. If you frequently crash with same error message, then repeat the commands above instead of going through the whole list of commands. It works for me I dont have anymore frequent crashes...its rather more stable. But I do suggest to update your motherboard,& scan always frequently...also some antivirus programs could crash your xp like I had with norton antivirus 2002...I am using Mcafee 6.0 & its great & stable.
