Hi!

My computer is overusing memory. I have 1 GB. of RAM. I started to get errors like "not enough memory". For ex. My computer was open for 4-5 days which I sometimes hibernated. When I opened the task manager PF usage was 3.46 GB. I only used 4-5 IE browser windows. Then I restarted. PF usage was 185 MB when I restarted it. Then I run an online game. During game play, I got a not enough memory error and game crashed to desktop. Again I looked at PF usage and it was like 3 GB. Also Punkbuster(an anti-hack/cheat software included in the game) sometimes kicks me for corrupt memory.

I checked running processes but I don't think they are harmfull.
Is it a virus or worm? How can I fix this?

Spyware contributes to such occurances. Make sure your system is clean and clear.
Adaware and Spybot S$D are both free programs you cand download and run
Avast is a free antivirus

run disk cleanup off the system tools menu
defrag your hard drive off the same menu

Look at using msconfig to disable some of the programs startups since they consume memory.

Download and run memtest86 to test your physical ram

Imagine the power of knowing how to internet search

Some programs that are poorly written can do that also. Start a performance monitor log to see what starts it maybe.

Malware can do that also.

As well as memtest consider a diag suite to also check drive access and other functions.

I'd still suspect some program you have, a memory leak issue.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10

I may have a memory leak, because if I ever knew what "PF Usage" was, I've forgotten.

I'd set the Pagefile to System Managed for starters and disable Hibernation.

Life's more painless for the brainless.
