Copying Desktop folder?

We had an old system go down at work and rather then mess with it I pulled the (IDE) drive out and brought a USB drive reader in to retrieve the files off it.

The woman that had it saved a ton of files on her desk top and would you know it's the only area of the disk I can not access, copy or anything.

Any ideas?

You are going to desktop via user settings and documents/this user?

Google taking ownership of files and follow the procedure.
