Good Morning
My daughter is a Sims fanatic but she is quite careless with the CD's. I've taken to copying the CD's with CloneCD and letting her use the copies to play her games and keeping the originals in a safe place out of her hands. I've had no trouble with this until last night. I bought her The Sims Unleashed and did the CD copy. When I tried to install from the copy I got an error at 95%. The error was:

Component Transfer Error
Component: ExpansionShared
File Group: ExpansionShared
File: g:\Setup\data2.cab
Error: DataError (cyclic redundancy check)

I've also tried installing from the original and using the copy to play but all that happens is that the game starts to open and then just shuts down, wiping out her previous Sims versions in the process.

Does anyone have any idea what this means? or any suggestions as to what program I can use to copy this CD?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
MindsEye

"I've also tried installing from the original and using the copy to play"...... What happens when you use the original to play? Is it possible that the original is bad?

The problem would seem to be the copy protection that Sims: Unleashed uses. I have looked around and the only (?) way to backup this particular disc is to use a program called DiscDump. Haven't used it myself, but it looks good.

Get it here: http://www.geocities.com/ddumpfrontend/download.htm

Cessna ... it works fine to install and play with the original CD. My problem is that if I let my daughter use the original CD I would end up having to replace it within a couple of months. That's why I copy them ... she uses the copies to play and when they are destroyed I make a new copy. This girl is harder on things than her brothers were.

Thank you Nero ... I'll give it a try tonight when I get home. Will post back with the results.

I've tried the diskdump software and got what appears to be an accurate disk image. Unfortunetly I can only find one program to write it, and then the program still asks for the correct play disk. If anyone can tell me how to finish this project I'd be very thankfull. I still need a play disk for our new copy. Thank you all for your help.
