converting MSWMM file

im using windows movie maker version 5.1 (it came with my computer). im trying to upload videos onto youtube but youtube doesnt support MSWMM files, so i have to convert them into something else. i've tried different things,but it doesnt seem to help and i need to know how to change the format from MSWMM to something like avi, or wmv or something that youtube accepts. thanks.

MSWMM is MovieMakers data file. Use MM to load the data then use MM options to "export" the movie as an .avi file. The MM Help file gives pretty clear instructions on "Exporting"
Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure!

what you are doing is saving the movie maker project data file.
you need to export the *movie* file...
