I have set up a simple timecard in Excel. There is a time field for clocking in, and another for clocking out. I want Excel to then calculate the number of hours worked. I have used the advise on this site for the subject I am writting about. The advise here has helped me in the same way. Only,I have a problem along the same line, excel will not calculate time in my example.

I have a clock in time of 9:00 PM and a clock out time of 1:00 AM. For some reason I get #### and a message that reads "Negative dates or times are displayed as ####". If I try to reverse the cells in the formula field, I get 20:00. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.Stosh

have you tried this formula? Convert time to decimal

=HOUR(A2)+(MINUTE(A2)/60)If that doesn't help here is a list of hints on similar issues that might help you.

I guess my real issue is that I can not get a formula to fit the following cel problems. A1= 11:00PM

B1= 07:30AM

C1= 8.5

For some reason the system does not recognize the ongoing clock. Only from one day at a time from 00:00 - 23:59.Is there a way to have this formulate from a day to morning time and have it calculate a total?
