It;s possible to do but I think you need a proggie to convert it for you. What I would try to do is open the pdf in a program such as illustrator, and edit the text in there, or just copy it out to word. Try a search on google, you might find a conversion tool.

Portable Document Format files can be created in such a way as to provide only specific user access, such as read only or read and print only.

Even if one has the full Adobe Acrobat Application, it may not be possible to 'open and covert' a document created by another person.

That is exactly why it is so widely used.

A 'workaround':

If you want the text in a MS Word fornmat, print out the PDF file and scan it: then use an OCR application to convert the scanned document into MS Word format.

There are programs out there that will do it. None are free that I know of. Even Acrobat won't save .pdf files in the .doc format.

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/access_simple_form.html

That site will convert pdf to html, and then you can do what you please with it from there...possibly import the html into Word.

Acrobat will also allow you to convert PDF files to .rtf format and .jpg format. That helps a lot as well. I'm sure there are freeware programs that will do that as well.

One program which will convert a PDF document and import it directly into a word document including any pictures is ABBYY FineReader.

This is a top end OCR package so you may not want to buy it at around £65 but you can download a trial version from http://www.abbyy.co.uk/download/index.htm which should solve your immediate problem.

Good Luck!
