Is there another program that converts NTFS to FAT32 apart from partition magic?

Thanks,

Steve

Ok. Now you need somthing that can read NTFS, like a friends NT HD. BTW, this way needs to backed up. Then in the managment concel (on the other booted installed HD)delete the partions on your HD then add partions in FAT32 and format it. This is the easist way i know.

Why do you want to go back to fat 32? Win xp does seem to be much more stable on ntfs and it is the preferred file system for xp.

Well, there is one big advantage to FAT32: it makes your hard disk operate much faster than NTFS. That is because NTFS has to check the registry every time a file is accessed, to see if the user has access rights to that file.

If there is less need of security, e.g. when there is only one user and it is a stand-alone PC, one might consider switching back to FAT32.

Piet.

This is a long way...but if you don't have XP installed on the primary partition (anything other than c: drive...) you can re-install XP and use XP's conversion program to convert back to FAT32.

I would like to know too. I tried Part Magic. It didn't work, it always told me to decompress some files first. I done this. Still the same problem. I want to switch back to Fat32, because I'm having terrible speed problems with NTFS. I'm using a KDS 800 MHZ 128MB Laptop. Should be normally fast enough. I think it's a Bios problem and the NTFS is not supported right. I had W2000 with Fat32 before, never a problem. If someone could help, would be really nice.

Having the same problem, ntfs is soooo slow, sometimes when browsing my disk, my hdd starts working like hell and dosent stop in like 5min, never happened in fat32, I got 96gig of data filled up on my ntfs disk and i dont want to loose this.. Ive read somewhere that partitionmagic6.0 wont work, but 7.0 is worth trying... I tried the 7.0 boot disk, but cant seem to get that working either, i dont get the convert < fat32 option up, its just in transparent text etc...

Take win2000 installation cd, boot from it and then run the setup. There you will be asked where to install win2000. you can select your partition and then say convert to FAT32 or NTFS and say convert and instead of reinstalling win2000 simply repair it. Well you get a fresh win2000 and FAT32 or NTFS. I prefer FAT32. ALL THE BEST.

NT doesn't read NTFS-security settings from the registry! :o) ... It's implemented in the filesystem ...
