Aargh. Trying to fix my mom's pc. Cannot Add or Remove programs in control panel, there is also no sound and the system runs sluggish on the internet. The message: error shell32 missing control_rundll appears. Tried an sfc /scan, but it did not fix anything. Tried to load an Antivirus (AVG) to run hoping it would fix it, but cannot even download it. Is there a way to repair this without reformatting? She has XP Home Edition and no disk because it came from HP with XP loaded already. I can follow instructions but PC repair is not my strength. What can I do? I'm sure she has a virus on it. Please help. Thanks.
