Alright, I'm a little hazy to what happened prior, but I'm pretty sure my brother was only playing WarCraft3. This morning, I turned on computer and it said "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this... I try the different safe modes (was hoping I could MS/DOS it) and normal/last known config but all do not work. The safe modes start loading something from "multidisk partition (1) ... system/whatever.exe"
normal mode loads into the XP loading screen for about 5 seconds, flashes a blue screen for half a second and restarts. So, I can't see what it says .. and really curious to what it says :(
I did something funny with my friend's hard drive in which he needed to install XP so I hooked it up as a slave and I guess it modified my boot.ini and installed XP onto his slave drive. THAT would explain the multidisk parition, but I fixed it more or less so it would ignore that command line in the boot.ini
...so ... can anyone tell me what's wrong?
thanks
same thing happened to me. Saying you have a windows cd, you can use use a bootdisk, available at www.bootdisk.com and that should allow you to use command prompt. from there type the destination to your cd rom and type "setup" you should be able to repair it from the options without losing any info. scobod
What if I don't? :( Dunno where my Dell and HP Windows CD went.
Good thing the key is taped to the side of the case though! hahabut okay, cool. i will try to find the XP cd again, and try that.
though, I remember repairing my friend's WinXP ... and if I remember correctly, the particular selection isn't easy to get to...might end up formatting my computer :(
