Hi. I have a problem with constant IE 6 crashes. The problem doesn't occur at all on my computer account (admin), but it happens constantly on the other account (non-admin).

What happens on the other account is that every time you double-click on something to open it, be it a folder, a program, or anything, the Internet Explorer crashes. This displays the "IE has experienced a severe error and had to be shut down, would you like to send an error report to microsoft etc etc".

This makes it impossible to use that user account. I have Service Pack 1 installed, and whenever i try to repair it (control panel, change/remove programs) it displays a message stating that it cannot be repaired, and that i should re-install it. I tried re installing several times, but then the message is "there is already a version of IE installed, setup cannot continue".

I'm not very good with the windows technical side of computers, and i need help with it.

I'm running on Windows XP Home Edition on a HP Pavilon computer. AMD Athlon 2000+ processor, 512 mb ram. I havent installed the Win XP Service pack 2 yet, because i'm afraid that installing it on an already faulty system could make the problem permanent.

I havent tried removing the other account and creating a new one either, because i'm afraid that that would cause my admin account to mess up. Probably sounds stupid to people who know better, but i don't.

What should i do?

Hi,

This is a most common problem....when u get this error try clicking on the button below that for e.g Details or something. In the error message in detail u will see some .dll file which is causing I.E to crash...try searching on Google with key words like Internet Explorer crash + the dll file name u r getting error in... if no relevant results are found....boot ur pc in safe mode & delete the dll file....Its always good to have an anti spyware prog like Adaware or something...u can download one from http://www.securityalertz.com Good Luck!!!

To reinstall IE, you have to open the registry, go to HKey_Local_Machine. Expand software, microsoft, active setup, installed components. Click on {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}.Right click the installed (REG_DWORD)value, then click modify. Change the value from 1 to 0. Exit the registry. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp to download and install internet explorer. Then get the free maxthon browser for IE. Hope this helps
