I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows, and have noticed that since doing so Internet Explorer continuously fails to find websites. It finds them fine one minute, then another displays ye olde Cannot Find Server error message. Sometimes if I refresh the page over and over again it eventually reappears, but usually I have to disconnect from the internet and reconnect before it'll work properly again. It does it over and over again with numerous different sites, and it's got to the point where it now displays error messages more often than it finds pages.
I never had this problem before I reformatted my HD and I've checked my security settings and they're all as they should be. I'm working with BT Broadband Basic. All the drivers for the modem, etc, have been properly installed. What puzzles me most is it works some times and not others, and changes minute to minute.
If anyone's got any clues, please let me know! Thanks.

what dns server is your workstation pointed to?
Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

have you tried a different browser to compare the behaviour?

Hi, thanks for all the feedback. I tried Browzar but with the same result. Not sure what a DNS server is... bit of a fool... How do I find this out and what can I do about it?

Start with the basics first.
1.Create a restore point in system restore
2.Uninstall and reinstall ur network adapter in device manager(Start->Run->Devmgmt.msc->Right click on Network adapters listed and uninstall and then restart the system)
3.Try pinging the websites(example:Start->Run->CMD->ping www.google.com)
4.Check in safe mode with networking.If it works,could be startup/services/drivers issue
5.uninstall any security softwares(Firewalls and Antivirus)
6.Reinstall winsock by following http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259/en-us
7.Rename C:\windows\System32\drivers\etc\Hosts file and restart the systemStart with the basics first.
