I don't know anything about your scanner. I'll give you information to help you get connected to AOL.
The best way is to use an AOL CD
The main part of the information I giving you is Quick Restore.
Disregard anything else if you don't want to use it.
Reinstall AOL using Quick Restore
Bring your PFC Backup up to date. (If you use this part)
Open AOL but don't sign-on. Settings - Mail Settings - Manage Saved Mail -
Backup - Click Backup now.

Open AOL and Sign in.
Open your Favorites and go to manage at the bottom.
(Save my Favorite Places as a Favorite File on my computer.)
They will be saved in your Documents.
This will allow you to replace your Favorite if missing after Quick Restore.

For Quick Restore.
Start - All Programs - America Online - AOL System Information
Click OK for Warning - Click Quick Restore.
When you do this you will have to resign on to AOL.
Sign on to AOL - When asked enter your sign on name. Don't use the part
Enter old Password - OK
Go to Keyword and type Store Password - Enter Password - check mark box - Save.
Don't check mark the email box unless you want your email password protected.

Go to and click Read Mail - A popup will come up - Click yes to save mail offline.

You have a PFC Backup that can be applied when you open AOL but don't signon.
Settings - Mail Settings - Manage Saved Mail - Restore.
You will start receiving AOL Updates when you sign off until it gets caught up.
If your Favorites are missing you can.
When you go to replace your Favorites go to your Favorites - Manage.
(Replace My Favorites Places with a Favorite File.)
This will allow you to right click your Favorites and click Select to Restore them.
These may return if missing in a few days if you wish to wait. I usually don't wait and I use
my saved Favorites that I have in my Documents.

I have more than one version of AOL on CD. They always work.
AOL doesn't make CD any more so you will have to search
for someone who has one.
AOL does allow you to make your own AOL CD of certain versions.

Right now their offering 9.5 or 9.0 VR
That's different than what I remember when I downloaded one of their verions.

cboy thank u again for your advice. I found an old aol 9.0 cd never used and did the install. I still got the same error message that i have been getting for weeks and still could not connect to the internet.
I am thinking of just doing a whole system recovery of the computer - i hope this is not a bad idea...
