My computer is not reading that the printer is hooked up to it. The hardware wizard does not detect it and asks me to set up port manually but I do not even really know what a port is or which one it should connect to or if I have it.

Hi, Is this something new - did your PC recognize the printer before, and now it doesn't, or is the first time you have connected this printer to your PC. Is the printer connected to a USB socket or to one of those large parallel connectors. To state the obvious: The printer must be switched on and check that the cable is firmly in the socket at each end. Also is this printer recognized when it is attached to another PC. Regards

It was a new connection and I don't know how really but by trial and error, I got it working! Thanks for replying though, I really appreciate it.
