The cheapest way is to get a cross over cable and a LAN card for each machine. Install the cards with the Manufacturers disks, then plug the crossover cable into each LAN card.. XP has to be the boss here so,in XP's Control panel/Network and internet connections/setup home or busisness network...XP's wizard will do the hard work here all you have to do is make a floopy when prompted then stick that into the ME machine and follow the prompts there too.
