Specs: Windows XP Pro SP3, 3Ghz, 500Mb
Hi there,
I am connecting an office Laptop to an existing LAN network so that user can access to the printer, shared folders on the main server. I have a windows server 2003 running on fixed ip while a Laptop runs on wireless and obtain an IP automatically. User can only browse shared folders, printing through network printers etc... working fine. However, when browsing the server by \\servername\ in the standard windows explorer, i can not connect to the server, only \\ipaddress allows user to browse the server, is it common?
Thank you in advance and regards,

This would indicate you don't have the wireless connection dhcp providing the correct dns server.

The dns entry needs to be that of your ms dns server not that of the internet provider/gateway ip.

Understand why?

ISP dns server has no knowledge of your lan or servers but your lan does have a dns server that knows all the names on your lan.
