hello peeps happy new year i have heard xp can be configerd to run on 233 cpu and 64 ram 1.9 gb hdd how can this be done please?
thanks
Martyn.S

Forget it. You might just get it installed but it would be very, very slow and a lot of facilities would be absent.
Even if you just installed the absolute minimum you would not have much space left on a 1.9Gb Hard disk. The Windows folder alone would take up most of that.
Stuart

Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Professional
* PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
* 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
* 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space*
* Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
* CD-ROM or DVD drive
* Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

Hi Martyn.S,
I agree with Stuart. Even if you get XP to install, the system will be so slow and crammed, it will drive you nuts with the speed.
The agro. will not be worth it.

What the previous people have said is true, to an extent.
Configured properly, you could get Windows XP to work. Just. You would need to use a wonderful program called nLite to remove most of the unneeded installation files, i.e. basically all of them. That includes most of the optional services too.
Then, it would be very wise to follow Black Viper's XP Pro Super Tweaks as much as possible. The most important one on this list is point Number Seven: Disabling Unneeded Services. I recommend using as close to the "Bare Bones" configuration as possible.
The reason I say this is possible is because I am currently using a 300MHz computer with 64MB of RAM running Windows XP Pro to write this reply. I've done what I put above and it doesn't go too slowly. However, I recommend running non-MS apps for a more stable and secure machine:
Mozilla Firefox for web browsing
Mozilla Thunderbird for email and newsgroups
GAIM for all your instant messaging needs
AbiWord for word processing
OpenOffice.org for a complete integrated office suite (instead of AbiWord)
FileZilla for FTP
WinMX and eMule for your P2P needs
IZArc for all your compression needsetc.
These are only my recommendations, do what you like.
Hope that helps,
James
