Hello,

I have rolled out the Computing.Net buddy feature. Its sort of like the "Auto-Notify" that was available in the subscription. However, its not quite so advanced. Check it out. Its linked in your My Computing.Net.

P.S. This is just a test. Depending on many variables, this feature may or may not be made permanent.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC !!!

One request only: is it possible to force a reload of the window, or let us determine what the update-interval is?

And if someone could tell me how to put it into the system-tray? Or is that getting too close to the auto-notify feature ?:)

Harry,

I tried every link on there and all of them worked. Which one do you see as broken?

As for a manual refresh and update interval, I'll need to look at the additional server loads caused by the program. If they are negligible, I'll add manual refresh. If not, I don't want people to sit there hitting the refresh button over and over. Its much easier to refresh that a many, many times than it is to refresh the My Computing.Net page.

As for going into the system tray, its just a browser window. I'd have to write a separate self-contained program to do that. Frankly, I don't really know anything about Windows programming.

Click on refresh a few times and it is still grayed out. Does this make any sense to you?

Hello,

You mean like a visited link greyed out? Yeah that makes sense. Try clicking on it. If nothing happens, you must have javascript disabled. Maybe I'll go in and force the vlink to be black for that one link.

Justin, it is grayed out at the start. I click on it and nothing happens. Did notice when I click on the Back Button the link momentarily goes purple.

Java is enabled.

Hello,

This strange. For the entries in your My Computing.Net list, what happens when you click on the (edit) box? Does that window popup OK?

Justin,

Great feature... works like a charm for me.

SVG, ...right-click on your buddy window and hit "refresh".

Refresh - pfff, that's TWO mouseclicks away!:)

Just kidding - Thanx, SullyD !!

FYI
I've got an nVidia graphics card which comes with nView, and that one allows me to force my Buddy on top of every other window, and I also have it transparant, so I just have it sitting in the bottom-right corner all the time.

Very Cool, Justin - Great Work !!

Jason, re your last post. I had to go out and have not looked at the site until now. Where I am it is 5:10 PM (same time as Seattle Wash)

In my computing all the edit (words) are grayed out.

I have to pass on my thanks. Sorry you are almost baby sitting.

Does this help?

Harry,

The fact they are grey doesn't mean they can't be clicked on. All the grey means is that they are a visited link. Since the link is to #, that will always be a visited link. I would expect them to be grey. I just want to know what happens when you click on them.

Justin, when I try to open those links
(the edit) they are gray and nothing happens.

Thank you for your patience. I feel bad about all this. I was just curious at the 1st post. Please do not spend a lot of your time on this problem. I am sure that with some digging and other posts I may be able to solve the condrum.

Thank you for all your help

Hello,

Assuming javascript, not just java, is in fact enabled, maybe you are running a very aggressive popup blocker? Popup blockers shouldn't block on click popups. I haven't heard of any that do. Maybe there are some?

Either way, let me know if you find a solution.

Justin,

I use panicware's pop-up stopper and I have it set to "agressive". It does block it when I click on the "buddy" link. I simply hold down on the "ctrl" or "shift" button to over-ride it ( a feature in many pop-up stoppers).
