Name: OVERRIDE
It's probably asking too much and it is not a major concern or any type of emergency but I would like to simply ask the webmaster if it's at all any way possible to move all the way up the "Home" and the "My Computing.net" links that are to our left. Like if you could place them above 'Specialty Forum' or near or above the 'Post Message Icon' ??
Another thing I'm courious about, I'm courious about how everyone else's desktop looks like.
I would like it if someone would start up a post where postees would show an image/screenshot of his/her desktop. just for kicks. just a little phun in the midsts of all this/these posts.

Who is "We"? It certainly doesn't include me and I've been coming here for about five years. Personally, I would like to see the Home and My Computing.Net links at the top as well.
Michael J

Hello everyone,
I must be missing something.
Home, is at the top, it's the Computing.net logo at the very top left.
My Computing.net is also located at the top, on the right just below the Search feature.

hello mesich, and hello MichaelJ and the rest...
Mesich I just sent you an email.
I think MichaelJ understand exactly what I mean.
Mesich, I don't mean the computing.net link website. I mean the mycomputing.net link where your setting are. Though I know it is way to the top right, I was just wondering if it could be moved to the left but it's ok. It isn't a big deal.

Hello everyone,
Hi OVERRIDE,
Didn't receive any email from you.
I'm certainly glad Michael J understands as I don't.
You asked to have a link for the homepage, http://www.computing.net, at the top. It is as I previously stated.
You also asked for a link to "My Computing.net" at the top. It is as previously mentioned. I didn't realize that part of your request was too have it moved a bit to the left.

IMO it will be difficult for Justin to do "extreme makeover." As i understand it the software he uses is custom-made which is why our look is unique. Maybe I'm wrong but let's wait to hear from the CN Guru.

hey there Sabertooth, MichaelJ, mesich and others...
Mesich, I guess I sent you an email to your site's feedback form instead of your Spurs address.
Sabertooth where is/was the attachment I didn't see it. lol
mesich I'll send you the email again to your email instead of your site's

Why email? Why not keep the discussion open? Hmmm are you stirring up a conspiracy against CN?

Good Afternoon XpUser,
No sure on the email.

Hey mesich I guess you still have not read the e-mail that I sent you to your site. Here's a copy&paste of the e-mail I sent you since it's making "others" feel paranoid:
From: June Bone <junebone@gmail.com>

Subject: Overridehey there mesich,
I posted something about showing our desktop screenshots on mycomputing.net just for fun. Is there any way you can host my attached pic and then later on give me the url so I can post my image?
ok thanks for your time,
overrideI didn't think my simple inquiry to the webmaster, and notice that I typed 'webmaster' and not everyone 'others' 2 cents would have stirred up allegations of conspiracy. lol it's kinda phunny how others think.
There is no conspiracy anywhere. I posted this alone. And if for some reason someone else agreed to my post, only means he/she agreed. That's all.
By the way, haven't I mentioned in other posts how I do like this site? I do remember I have. And I for one, as I'm sure for the rest, think this site is a valuable resource. So why would I bite the hand that feeds me?
So in retrospect, stop making yourself an ass by assuming.
Maybe some postees have not noticed but I sure have, If you have something against me please send me an e-mail or send me a private message and stop contradicting every single one of my posts and stop stirring up BS (i.e. xpuser) another thing, I would appreciate it if you ceased to comment on any of my future posts. (i.e. the aforementioned individual)
for the rest, please accept my sincere apologies. I was just simply asking if it could be done without having to start up any bickering by others. For those who sincerely agreed, thank you for understanding my point of view. And my apologies to whoever got caught up in the middle and got confused.

Hello everyone,
Hi OVERRIDE,
I still haven't recieved the email. The site is currently on a temporary host so the email links aren't working. We would change them but there is a couple of hundred pages that would have to be changed and hopefully the temp host is only for a short period.
Drop the email using the address by clicking on my username above.

Hi OVERRIDE,
Yes, I read your email in the previous post. I do not wish to continue and discuss it within the thread, as it has nothing to do with it.
Drop me an email if you need us to host an image.

Override, if your question was directly toward only Justin, then you should have sent him a Private Message and not posted a new thread in the Forum. :)
Soylent Green is PEOPLE!!!

And you certainly shouldn't be posting anyone's email address. Computing.net takes steps to protect our email addresses from spammers/bots. Posting them on an open forum defeats the purpose of that protection. I think you need to learn a little forum etiquette.
Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

My original message/post was that i wanted for all of us to post a screenshot of our desktops. I just think it's kinda fun to see other people's desktop screens.
At the last second before clicking 'confirm post' I decided to ask that question about the links on the left. I didn't think it was going to end up a big deal.
I knew I had that option to send the webmaster a pm just as we all do and to each other as well but nevertheless I asked the question and I posted the question and coulda ,woulda, shoulda are useless.
If in case you are concerned for webspace or the site's bill, let me know so I can click on a thousand ads and or send the webmaster a check for my usage.

Sci-Guy, you are right about me posting mesich's email like that. Because I could care less if I posted mine but I don't think I had the right to expose his.
Hopefully the webmaster can edit this post and remove several references to mesich's email addess and mine being displayed.
I know ettiquette BBS I guess I didn't think twice before posting. However, that will never happen again. I'm sorry mesich.

My add-in thoughts.
1. My desktop is pretty boring. I never look at it too long. If I find I am staring at the desktop then it is time to shut it down.
I have never visted the CN Home page except to see what someone was talking about.
Been coming here for at least seven years.
2. I use the Links bar and have the Message List page bookmarked so it is always at the top of my page.
http://computing.net/cgi-bin/mycomputingml.plIf you want to get into special requests with regards to the two links...how about changing to those really annoying floating links that follow you over the length of the page.
Bryan

Hello,
Look on the right sidebar, there you have a graphical link to My Computing.Net, including login status.
As for home, clicking on the Computing.Net logo at the top will take you home.
Justin

I made a simple comment. I made it as polite as possible. You can see and read it before response number 1.
I received my answer already. The webmaster said, no, he cannot move the link to the left. Alright, I can move on, because to me that was not at all a major concern.
Oh and webmaster, could you acknowledge a special favor of mine? Please if you can, remove any exposed email references made withing this thread or if it suits better, why not delete the whole damned thing.
As to why anyone would allege so called conspiracies, is simply ubsurd.

Hello everyone,
Hi OVERRIDE,
I shall first say, that my opionions below are just that. Mine and only mine. I have no more affiliation with Computing.net than you. Please read carefully though and try to understand where my thoughts our.
Your response to Jennifer comment was;
"I knew I had that option to send the webmaster a pm just as we all do and to each other as well but nevertheless I asked the question and I posted the question and coulda ,woulda, shoulda are useless".
I'm glad to hear you understand for future reference what you coulda and most importantly, what you shoulda done.
"If in case you are concerned for webspace or the site's bill, let me know so I can click on a thousand ads and or send the webmaster a check for my usage".
You are looking at a very small picture.
Threads get posted that don't have a quick fix or the "right person", specializing in that area are not around. The "Problem" is therefore not answered immediately. Now comes many "off-topic issues" and puts the problem way down the list or even worse to the next page. Well, so much for the "Problem" as it's been hijacked by "off-topic" posts. My original message/post was that i wanted for all of us to post a screenshot of our desktops. I just think it's kinda fun to see other people's desktop screens.
I agree, especially after seeing Sabertooth's desktop. :-)
Again, see my earlier about Off-Topic. I like a good laugh myself, but what if we cluttered the WinXp forum with jokes and such. So&So likes to see different screensavers people are using, and another So&So likes..., well I'm sure you get my opinion. You intentions are good, but I think you should kick back and well..., smell the roses, you can always pick them later. :-)
Hi Sci-Guy,
Thank you for posting about inserting an email address. It's been a long time, I hope all is well with you and yours.
Hi Bryan,
Long time buddy. :-)
I think I got you beat on the boring desktop. ;-)
Very good point on using the link bar.
I visit many sites that might not fit to my particular wants. I, as you, have found if the content is good I manage to manipulate it too better suit my preference.
Hi Justin,
That was exactly my point in response #5. As you very well know, you cannot create a layout that will make everyone happy.
You have a wonderful website and I hope you carry on as you have in the past. It must be great if the only complaints are moving around a few links. :-)
Good Evening XpUser, or is it Morning, after all this,
I'm going to just leave your last response alone for now. :-)
Starbuck's in N.Y. is definitly out tomorrow as it looks like CVG will be on a big delay.Hello everyone,
Did anyone actually make it through my entire response?

Hi Mesich,
It has been a long time. I still come to CN a couple times a day, but don't post as much as I used to. I've never forgotten all the help you gave me back in my Windows 98 days. Without your help back then, I might still be almost computer illiterate. I've come a long way since then, A+ certified, intermediate programming skills (VB6, C++, Delphi), advanced network knowledge, and much more.
Thanks for your well-wishes. Unfortunately, I've lost a couple family members over the last few months to different forms of cancer and have just begun my own battle with throat cancer (caught it early though).
Hope you and yours are happy and well.
Regards,
Sci-Guy.
Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Hi Override, Mesich, Sci-Guy and everyone else..
Sci-Guy,
Your battle with "C" has touched my heart. I will be praying for you and yours. How could I ever forgot you for the encouragement you and others gave me in learning HTML and other little tricks here and there.
Override,
I apology if I came down too hard on you :-) You told me to Stop acting like a 12 year old- user Believe me I really would love to be 12 year old user again instead of being a Senior Citizen marching on toward the end of life in the distant future if not sooner.
Mesich,
Thanks for not stepping on my last post before this one. I've not patronized Starbuck's for quite a while. I finally gave in to my half insistence that I drink herb tea from now on :-) By the way what's CVG (forgive me if I have forgotten something - I'm Info-Overloaded :-))
Best regards to all
i_XpUser

Hey Override,
I got your email and I must tell ya, this thread is an obvious example of how trivial things turn out when blown way out of proportion. This is a public forum and there's bound to be conflict of opinion or even thread crapping at worst at some point or another.
I consider everyone but take a lot of comments with a pinch of salt because it's never about what we all take away from this site but what we bring to the forum.
Secondly, Computing.net is aquired taste much like those eclectic old-money country clubs in the Hamptons (XPUser may be able to explain that), the people that stay here, do it to avoid the styles, nuances and non-uniqueness of newer forums.
You said you've been coming here for a while, you definitely must have gotten used to the CN's home page by now. Accepted it is bland, boring and borderline unformatted, but that is what makes it different. I do see where you are coming from based on your suggestion but you have to understand this site tries very hard to preserve its identity.
That doesn't mean if you have a suggestion to not bring it up, that is where I disagree with vociferous responses like the one from Justme. I have made some myself and the dialogue ensued from it made me realize the ones that were practical and those that weren't.
I think one or two was even implemented.....:-).
Goodluck.
Note: **Your image is attached below**

Seriously, what are those dots below the Computing.Net logo? I've always wanted to ask/know that. lol. They look like birds flying away or like footstpes in the white sand. Like ants out finding food....
ok bye
