computer won't wake up

August 20, 2009 at 18:48:47
Specs: Windows XP
when my computer (Windows xp media center edition) slips into sleep mode it will not wake up... My monitor receives no signal. I hard boot my pc and everything fires up, but I get nothing on the screen. I hard boot a few more times and after 5-15 times I get a normal boot except no beeps. I have reseated my ram a few times and changed the options for sleep mode so I can research this a bit. My pc is about 3 years old and was purchased new. I have had no problems at all with it and have not opened it up for anything other than to clean it now and then. I have had no new hardware installed and the only new software I have added is firefox with a few options to watch streaming video. any hints/tips? thanx - KOG

first of all, sleep mode is basically for laptops, not desktops.
You may want to do some malware cleaning.
Ccleaner Slim
Malwarebytes
Super Anti-spy
and some anti-virus scans

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

... yeah ok. The power schemes were the settings I changed ... it wasn't "sleep" it was the power down options for the monitor and hard drive after inactivity for X minutes it won't recover from, I disabled them so my pc doesn't go into power save mode anymore. But this still doesn't solve the problem of it taking many hard boots to get my pc turned back on, and also no beeps when it does finally boot. Better? as far as running scans, I have already done the mal/spy/virus scans as well as a defrag and a chkdsk. I only wish the solution was as easy as a scan. I'm not wanting to turn off my computer as it may not boot up again, I welcome any suggestions on what it may be. I am pretty sure it isn't any oxidation as I looked pretty close for during my last bout with this problem.
