I recently installed a new LG DVD rom (GSA-H22L)and now my computer won't turn off. I click on start-turn off computer-shut down and the software does everything it used to except now the computer won't shut off. The monitor goes black just like always and the little red light of the processor stops flickering, just like always. No error messages received at any time during the DVD installation or after. Why won't the computer power down?
Any help would be appreciated.

Disconnect the dvd & see if it goes back to normal.

If "Easy CD Creator" came with the new drive, that could be the problem. The trial version of that is known to cause XP shutdown issues.

The DVD was disconnected and the problem remains. No, Easy CD creator is not installed.Software that came with the DVD is:Nero Express,INCD,Power Producer,Power DVD.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

roll back system (system restore) to the point before you install the drive. then install one software at a time and check the shotdown between installations (asuming the rollback helped)

Here is what I did to fix the problem.I used the restore feature and went back to the point just prior to installing the DVD software.I shut down the computer after the restore and everything went ok.I restarted the computer, created a new restore point and re-installed all of the software that came with the DVD then shut down the computer again and everything went well.
Obviously some kind of conflict with the DVD software that caused the problem.
Many thanks to everyone for your assistance.

That being the case, it probably would have shown the problem in Device manager, would'nt hurt to have a look there now & make sure it's clean.
