Hi I am new to these forums and I just have a quick question. My old computer was running Windows XP for several months and then quit on me. I went to reinstall it and it seems that the reinstall worked, but XP will not load all the way. The computer goes to the Windows XP loading page and then the screen goes black. It may be the cd, I am not sure. I tried a different XP cd and it told me my computer was not compatible to run XP, but my computer has a 40 gig hard drive, 256 RAM, and I believe 1.5GHz processor.
Has anyone run into this problem, or have any idea on how to fix it.

Do you have an up to date video card?
I have that problem on my little sisters PC.ITs a p3 850mhz and you would assume it will install fine but for some reason it also hangs during the installation.
Must be a hardware incompatibility issue.
Hard part is trying to figure out which one.maybe M.B needs to flashed?

this happened to me one time and it turned out i needed to install updated video card drivers for XP.. I had to download the drivers. and then boot into safe mode in XP.. and install the drivers there and then restart the Pc.. and it worked fine after that.. just a suggestion..

Well I will try to install the drivers when I get home. I am not sure if my computer will start up though, cause I tried to boot it in Bootlog, and it says I am missing a file.

I had a similiar problem, tried everything possible, turned out thier were bad sectors in my Hard Drive. If any of the above ideas dont work, get partition magic 8.0,and check your HD,or you could just take it to someone.I have installed XP on P2 400,s 256 Ram,little sluggish but ran fine other than that,so your comp is fine..Good Luck.
