Are you trying to setup a dual boot system? It can be done, but the better method is to have ME installed 1st, then installing XP afterwards.

Are you sure you have the jumper on the slave drive set correctly?? Don't put it on the primary channel with the "main HDD" unless absolutely necessary. It would be much better to have it on the 2ndary channel.

How many IDE devices do you have? I wrote the following in response to another question. These are my recommendations for IDE configuration:

If you only have 2 devices:

primary master = HDD w/OS
primary slave = none
2ndary master = optical drive (reader or burner)
2ndary slave = none

If you have 3 devices, use either of these:

primary master = HDD w/OS
primary slave = optical drive (reader)
2ndary master = optical drive (burner)
2ndary slave = none

primary master = HDD w/OS
primary slave = none
2ndary master = optical drive (reader or burner)
2ndary slave = 2nd HDD

If you have 4 devices:

primary master = HDD w/OS
primary slave = optical drive (reader)
2ndary master = optical drive (burner)
2ndary slave = 2nd HDD
