Computer won't log on

Hewlet packard / Compaq presario v6000

Specs: Windows XP
My son was installing Norton 360 3.0 updates and it prompted him to restart his computer. Since then he cannot log on. It says saving settings then the screen goes to logging off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Norton strikes again.
If I understand correctly, his computer is not completely shutting down, so it cannot turn on. When a computer will not shut down completely (used as a last resort only), press and hold the 'start' button, after a number of seconds (probably 10 or 15 seconds). After it has been off for a number of seconds, press again for starting.

If you can log into safe mode, I would recommend to a system restore to before Norton was installed (or at least the updates) if possible.
Or: Insert XP install or restore disk, boot to that and begin the system restore from there.
Or: contact Norton Support....They caused it.
Personal Opinion: If they are not helpful, and you have to reload windows, dump them and replace with something better. For antivirus/antispyware, I use Webroot's Antivirus with Spysweeper, and have for years - I'm a reformed Norton user myself. Use a good lean product and keep your computer clean of junk and you will probably pick up a lot of speed over Norton Bloatware.
