Help!

The CD drive won't open... I thought it was jammed or something, but when I go to 'My Computer' there is no Cd drive thingy to click on!

The light near the eject button is always on, but it won't open. This has been bothering me for 2 weeks now

Please help me :(

I should mention that I'm a dummy when it comes to computer stuff, so some basic and understandable instructions would help. Thanks in advance!

This tells you how to install, if you follow all the steps & you still have a problem, try ( borrow ) another rom.

Thanks Johnw... I may have found the problem. In the picture in the link you gave me, there's 3 different cables that need to be attached. Is this true with every type of drive? Because the one on the far left (I think it's the audio cable) isn't connected, and I couldn't seem to find it. The power and data cables are connected though. I'll look again to make sure I didn't miss that last cable.

"(I think it's the audio cable)"
Correct, not your problem.

"device manager either.."
Tell me if the CD Rom is being recognized from boot up.

Hit the pause button during the opening screen & you should see all the installed drives listed.

Tell me exactly what you see.

Hit the space bar to restart the page loading.

ok the behavior of the drive changed a bit... after a reboot the cd drive IS recognized by the computer and it opens... but when I close it, it stops functioning... it won't read disks and it won't open until I restart the computer

It's on your keyboard.

"but when I close it, it stops functioning"
It probably needs replacing, get another out of somebody's throw away computer.
