Ok i've tried like mad to fix this myself so my last ditch effort is to post here. My computer worked all fine and dandy until i put this fan i got from a store with my ATX case...i have a Pentium 3 933MHz, 256MB RAM, CD ROM, CD-R slave, 60GB HD with a 20GB HD slave, the motherboard came with a Dell Dimension 2100 it's Intel 874A or something like that...oh and i have a PNY MX440 NVidia GForce 4 video card.
Now i was fixing the loaction of the 60GB hard drive seeing as i hadn't put anywhere yet so i took everything out and i was short a connector, so i had the dell fan that came with the 2100 already there and that worked fine, when i placed that fan that came with the case and i plugged everything in, the LED on the motherboard is on...so i go to turn on the computer and all it makes is a weird humming noise, so i turn it off and try again same noise, so i figure it doesn't work and put back my old dell fan. well this time when i went to start up my computer everything came on...the CDROM flashed, hard drives began spinning even the fans worked...but that was it...the computer would load no further i couldn't get any display on the monitor at all...i know everything works cause i tested it cept i haven't tested the motherboard...is it dead ? or did the processor die ? how do i check ? did the fan fry the motherboard ?

any help will be great...i'm on the verge of buying a SOYO P3 motherboard and use my old processor...help !

dont buy a new mothorboard for that old a chip, you can get a xp2000 combo for 70 bucks at frys if you watch their ads.

now, by fan do you mean heatsync? because if you do then there is a very good chance you fried you chip, but if you mean a casefan the chances are its just a connection.

I have had that sort of porblem before, one time my floppy drive was plugged in upside down, and all other times it was something similar. I reccomend taking everything apart and putting it together again, that way you can be sure everything is pluged in right. If that doesnt work... well, post again.

i tried already to take apart the computer and put it back together

i mean in all of it casefan...so i took my dell casefan out...put in the casefan that came with my new case...it made a strange humming noise...put back in my dell casefan and it doesn't boot

i tried moving the bios jumpers around and that didn't work either...my MBO is a Intel CA810E if that helps
