I had Linux installed on a second drive for a while and I removed it. Trouble is the computer will nolonger boot as it stalls when it tries to load some part of the GRUB. How to I get rid of the grub loader.

Linux tends to rewrite your mbr and is not very good at UNWRITING when it is un-installed. Load your xp cd, go to repair console and choose FIXMBR. You may also have to use FIXBOOT as well.
