Start, settings, controlpanel, system, advanced tab, under startup and recovery click on the settings tab, under system failure uncheck the box automatically restart.

are you sure that this will work? my computer doesnt really restart. when a comp restarts it shuts down properly. mine just turns off and on.

Jason, My computer does the same exact thing.
It is driving me nuts! My comp has similar specs as yours but I use an Athlon XP 2000.Doc, I was looking at that option this morning and thought about turning it off.
I will give it a try.
Thanks!

Hmm... sorry doc but your method did not work for me :( . Does anyone else have any ideas about how to solve this problem? thanks.

run Regedit and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControlRight-click on the "AutoReboot" DWORD [REG_DWORD] Value in the right hand pane -> select Modify -> change it to read 1 (Auto Reboot enabled) -> click OK -> close the Registry Editor.
Restart Windows for the change to take effect.
From now on the OS will reboot upon locking up, right after writing to the crash log file (if enabled).
To disable it, change the "AutoReboot" value back to 0 (default).
