I have recently reloaded this computer for my client as she had a lot of Trojans on it.
Everything is fine but then it started to turn itself on when she used the phone.
I went back and changed the setting in the modem properties where it says allow this device to bring the computer out of standby, have been into the power settings and changed the hibernate one to not allow.
There is no network adapter and there is no other hardware that has those kind of settings. It only happens when using the phone and it never did this before the reload using the same modem.
Anyone got any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated as it is a mystery, not a big hassle but would be nice to know why.

Thanks Turtle63

Ummmm,, first thing is,, she's on Dial-Up. If she picks up the phone to dial out, she overrides the connection, unless the modem had a line-in connection and phone-out, then you just get the funky internet thingy like a fax machine. You may need to reload updated modem drivers since you had to reload windows.
Also,,, when she picks up the phone the computer comes on? You may need to check her BIOS settings and make sure "Wake on LAN" is not set. Sometimes on a modem the bios assumes when there's a dial tone it's suppossed to activate the modem to dial out, depending on your configuration.

Yep on dial up, when I did the reload of Windows, as you know if there are any driver updates it shows on Microsofts update web site in which case I would of downloaded them, I cant honestly remember if there were any modem ones but know there quite often are so we'll assume they are up to date. I did check the bios for power on settings etc after a power cut but didn't check the wake on Lan one's mainly because she hadn't told me at that point that it was the phone doing it so will check that soon. Hopefully that may fix it if the setting is there to change. Thanks for input.
