Comment:

I fix a lot of computers. I have decided to put together a "Survival Pack" I don't want to spend any money on this, so anything I put in it would just be what is lying around or something I download and burn. What are some good things to put in it? I already have Linux, Comodo Firewall Pro, AVG Free, Ad-Aware SE, OpenOffice, Synergy, A link to Windows Defender, Adobe Reader, iTunes & Quicktime, and 7-Zip. What are some other good things to put in this "Survival Pack?"

There is nothing wrong with IE. I use it on a regularly basis as well as the majority of us and a good deal of us seem to be fine.

Thats nothing more than flamebait.

To the OP: SpywareBlaster is also an excellent tool, it forms a block list of all the common nasty sites such as tribalfusion.com in your browser, Internet Explorer or Firefox.

There is one subtle yet vital difference between opinion and fact; and the bigger man is he who can whole-heartedly admit this.

The BartPE CD is worth adding to your toolkit. It's free and even works on W98SE (so I found).

And for hardware diagnostics I recommend Memtest86 and a selection of harddrive diagnostic tools available for download from the manufacturers.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

If you get Kaspersky Security on your own machine it gives you an option to create a rescue disk that can be used on just about any Windows system. This uses BartPE boot disk as a 'carrier & you end up with a CD which boots to a virtual XP desktop (Bart doesn't work on Vista yet AFAIK). This can be invaluable for running full Kaspersky AV/spyware & any other tools that it has or that you may want to add.
