I have encountered the same problem. This happened on a brand new computer maybe used for 5-6 days. A nortin anti virus window poped up asking about an update, (I think it was an update). Then I clicked yes and the computer started to close everything down. It started to reboot goes to the Window XP pro logo screen with black backgroung and starts to load, 5 seconds later it stops and starts the reboot process over again. It won't stop doing this. I need help. What just happened to my computer? How can I get into the computer and fix the problem. Also it won't start in any of the safe modes. Please Help> I am running with an AMD sempron 2600+ processor, Western digital 160gb hard drive, Sony dvd/CD-R drive, 3-256mb 3200 184 pin kingston ram

I have seen this problem before. boot from the windows xp cd, and repair the installation, or reinstall over the top. That's the only way I could get into it. when you DO get in, make a system restore point or go to a restore point before the whole sorry mess began. I cant remember if you keep your restore points if you reinstall windows or not.
