Computer stuck at startup

Compaq Presario
August 12, 2007 at 20:46:56
Specs: Windows XP, 1gb
My computer gets stuck at startup; I get to the window with the Compaq logo, get options for esc=boot menu f1=setup and f10 system recovery but none of these work; put the windows cd and restarted (by removing the power cord) and won't boot with CD either.

I don't know what I did but it started, thanks anyway; any comments to repair this would be greatly appreciated, though!

Unplug everything except the keyboard and mouse, then press and hold in the power button for 30 seconds. Replug everything back in and restart the pc.

if that doesnt work, clear your cmos.

1)Make sure the computer is off
2)unplug the power cord
3)next to the battery you should see a small jumper which is the CMOS jumper, put it in the 'clear'position then return to where it was before.

there are three pins on the cmos
.
.
.

only two will have the jumper on it at any time, on my pc the top bottom two will clear the CMOS, then i return the jumper back to the top two and leave it there.

Make sure you dont switch the computer on with the cmoz jumper in the 'clear' position.

Let us know what happens.

Always Willing to Learn, you forgot something. Press the power button a few times after the power cord has been unplugged, to clear any remaining charge out of the machine.
