I'm working on an emachine with AMD Athlon 64 processor, 1024 MB DDR SDRAM, 200 Gig Hard Drive...I can't tell what company/brand the motherboard is except that the model number is N1996. When starting up the power comes on but there is nothing displayed on the monitor...it is just black. Also the customer I have this computer from said she installed another video card and had to return it because it didn't make the computer work. For the POST there is no beep. Is this most likely a defective video card or a defective motherboard??? What can be done to solve this? Is it possible the motherboard has to be jumpered or configured to use the other video card since it has the video display port as part of the motherboard as well. Since e-machines use motherboards with integrated graphics I would have to say motherboard. Chances of installing an add-on video card and having it work are slim. Frequently they use Foxconn boards. Finding an identical replacement will be hard depending on age. Anything over a year on those boards and they become scarce. Richard
