It would help to supply the system specs. And what do you mean it's slow? Was it ever "fast"? If so, it's most likely infected or bogged down with a bunch of useless startup entries.

One of the easiest ways to increase PC speed is to remove the list of redundant programs and apps that you no longer use from the start-up boot process. This will free up memory and cut down seconds from both the startup and shutdown processes. You can do so by running "msconfig". De-select everything you don't need and reboot. You should notice a difference.
If you're really keen on increasing speed, you should also consider a scan for malware and spyware. Cleaning your registry is likely to help as well.
