Computer slow to open especially internet.

Specs: Windows XP, 2.8 GHz / 479 MB

Is it worth purchasing one of these computer cleaners ? As part of downloading Adoibe digital PC Cleaner Pro ran a scan and found 1800 faults on the computer. Most of these they decided were either serious or critical!

I have been through my computer and removed anything I think I will not need to use again but it is still very slow to open especially the internet but other programs as well.

Is it worth registering (in other words buying) for a software cleaner such as this or would it just be money down the drain. PC Cleaner Pro claim to be a microsoft certified partner whatever that is worth.

I would appreciate your opinion.

Many thanks

You only have 479MB RAM, so you shouldn't expect XP to be blazing fast. And if you have a bunch of garbage programs installed & loading at startup, that will slow the system even more. You need to manage your startup apps. This will explain:

And whenever you install software, pay attention during the install process! A lot of software loads other programs along with it - most of the time it's garbage, sometimes it's a scam or spyware. If you wanted Adobe, that's what you should have installed, nothing else.

If you want to decent cleaning program that works well & is totally free, try CCleaner-Slim:

Which anti-virus program are you using? Most of the retail offerings (Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro, etc) are bloatware & will slow system performance. Try Microsoft Security Essentials, it's free & lightweight:

One tweak that you can make that will improve XP performance significantly is to turn off indexing:
