Computer shuts off by itself

My computer shuts off by itself. No warning, and to top it off, the error reporting system doesnt pop up after i restart. I leave for work and come home to the monitor being on and the computer being off. I turned off the feature that controls if I hit the power button incase there was an issue with that. I don't know why this is happening, I have ran every type of test (scandisk, reformatted, defrag, ram test) Does anyone know what it could be? The computer is an HP Pavilion XE783. IT came with ME but i upgraded to XP.

If you upgraded instead of doing a clean install ox XP, that is probably the problem

Have you checked if it could be a heat issue? Check your health status in the cmos setup to see if there is a shut down temp, and if it is activated, at what temp, etc. It would be more helpful to sit around the house for awhile and see if it shuts down while you are there. Are you running any apps while you are away?
Also, you may want to post some specific hardware, as XP does still have some issues with some drivers. Post back. Good Luck.

It is a clean install, how do i access my heat shut of? I have never heard of that type of item. Is there a way to change it? The only apps I have running are, Norton 04, aim, msn, (all offline line) my optical mouse program and the usual stuff int he background that doesnt show up on the tray icon. I hope this is of any help to you.
