computer shuts off before xp installation

Why during installation of Windows XP using an operating system disc. does the computer shut off before I'm able to press Enter=Continue, R=Repair, F3=Quit?

Probably overheating. Was the thermal compound installed correctly on the CPU/Heatsink?
