I reformatted my computer and updated my bios but whenever I plug in my Wireless PCI adapter and surf the internet for a few minutes the computer shuts itself off. I removed it doesn't happen again.

Is something wrong with the adapter?

Check to see if your drivers for the wireless card are all installed correctly. Also make sure the firmware is up-to-date on the wireless card. Both of these you can check on the manufacturer of the wireless cards website.
Hope this helped!

I run Ubuntu 9.04 on my Compaq Presario R3000. I also run windows XP & 7(beta) in virtual box.
